Goggle Lens
The most widely used goggle lens is meant to shield the eyes from harmful UVA and UVB rays. They are used for a variety of sports including skiing, snowmobiling and snowboarding. There are different levels of protection that are good in different lighting conditions. A dark lens is good on bright sunny days, but can be difficult to use on grey, flat light days. The darkest of lenses are used for arc welding and black out the majority of UV light.
A goggle lens can also be used for protection from particulate matter and flying debris. Construction workers, carpenters, and even cyclists and mountaineers use these types of lenses. They are typically shatter proof, clear and very durable. Medical practitioners, nurses and surgeons use a special lens that prevents infection as well as protects from flying blood and infectious material.
A special goggle lens made from pure gold is used on the visors of spacesuits to protect them from harsh solar radiation. Other high tech applications include military ballistic lenses and special lenses used to view lasers. There are specialized lenses for viewing solar eclipses and special lenses for view fireworks. 3D glasses also incorporate specialized lenses.
