Motorcycle Goggles
Motorcycle goggles are typically used with off-road and motocross helmets which do not contain a built in visor. They are designed to protect against a variety of conditions as well as block wind and debris from striking the eyes. They secure closely to the face and wrap around the outside of the helmet. Some versions are used without helmets in states that don’t require helmets to be worn. These goggles are typically stylish as well as functional.
Motorcycle goggles used for off-road riding have certain features that make them more useful in mud, dust and grime. Many come with special attachments that are placed over the lens. Typically they are very thin pieces of plastic layered upon each other with a special pull tab. When one layer gets covered in mud or dust it can be torn off exposing a clean, clear layer underneath. Some versions have the film on a sliding mechanism that slowly pulls it clean from a roll of clear film.
Motorcycle goggles look very similar to ski and snowboard goggles but they typically lack the double lens common on snow goggles. This is because they are not typically used in extremely cold environments so there is less propensity for the lens to fog. Typically a clear lens is used for the best visibility although tinted lenses are available and widely used in bright sand dunes.
