Swim Goggles

Swim goggles are primarily used to keep water out of the eyes while swimming. They can also protect the eyes from UV radiation if they have a protective tint although most goggles are simply clear lenses for distortion free vision. The most common material used is polycarbonate which is strong, clear and light.

Swim goggles consist of individual eye pockets that have a softer, often rubber seal. They are connected with a small plastic piece at the bridge of the nose which is adjustable for different sized heads. The whole set up is secured with a stretchy elastic strap that is also adjustable for different sized heads. There are typically only small and large sizes as well as child goggles.

Swim goggles can be found anywhere there is a swimming pool. It is always recommended to use only the goggles individually purchased new. A used or shared pair of goggles can increase the transmission of diseases such as pink eye. Rinsing them with cold tap water can keep them clean and clear for a long time.
